New cart brings comfort to autistic children at Sparrow

LANSING, Mich (WLNS) – A new service at Sparrow Hospital aims to make life as comfortable as possible for children with autism.

Kellye Youngs, a pediatric intensive care nurse whose son is autistic, has developed a “sensory cart” to provide comforting resources to young autistic patients, like noise-canceling headphones and specialized blankets.

It is being used now at the Sparrow Children’s Center with the goal of facilitating coping and communication.

Youngs reports the cart is very popular with patients and families .
