Future of Walnut Hills still being questioned

EAST LANSING, MI (WLNS) – Questions have continued to be raised about where Walnut Hills stands and what the future looks like for the club.

With confusion over the status of Walnut Hills, owners and employees continue to stand by their original statement.

“All the rumors and the negativity that are being talked about is not true and we will be opening,” Walnut Hills Event Planner Judy Hankerd said.

The most recent gossip flared up after member Ken Ketcham sent an email out, saying he believed the course was closing after the Groundskeeper was not paid for keeping the golf course up.

“I think it’s a chaotic mess frankly,” Former Walnut Hills Member Ken Ketcham said.

Despite the course opening, members say that Walnut Hills is still facing an uphill battle.

“Certainly we won’t do anything with Walnut Hills until we find out what the plan is,” Ketcham said.

Members may be hesitant to trust the Owners assurance that the club is open, but employees planning the events say all is going according to plan, including an annual golf event which was held this afternoon, the same as every year in the past.

“All events scheduled from now until next year are still on schedule and ready to go,” Mid-Michigan’s Wedding Group Planner Nicole Dungey said.

There are changes being made according to Hanker, who gave 6 News this statement:

“Walnut Hills is now called Walnut Hills Event Center, we will be opening golf this year whether is be private, semi-private or public. Scott Weaver is still part of the ownership, and the current ownership is still in place. Mid-Michigan’s Wedding Group has leased the venue from Scott Weaver and is working with Judy Hankerd on all events this year and into next year”.

Weaver says he expects to open the golf course in a matter of days.
