One dead after car crash into tree, fire

SUMMIT TWP., MI (WLNS) – One man is dead after a fiery car crash.

It happened around 4:50 p.m. in the 3800 block of Francis St. near Trumble Ave. in Summit Township.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says an officer pulled a car over at Francis and Overhill, but the driver took off.

A short distance away, at Francis St. near Trumble Ave., the driver crashed the car into a tree and the car burst into flames.

Witnesses say the car was traveling fast. One witness told 6 News that she heard the driver yell for help while he was trying to get out of the car.

The Jackson Fire Department was on scene and brought out a blue tarp to cover the car.

At this time the car is just a shell.

An ambulance was on scene, but left without sirens going off.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office requested that the Michigan State Police investigate the crash.
