Tree dedicated to two Kalamazoo shooting victims

MATTAWAN, Mich. (WLNS)- A tree has been dedicated in memory of two of victims of the Kalamazoo shootings back in February.

“The tree by the Mattawan High School gym is a reminder to people live their lives as fully as Richard Smith and his 17-year-old son Tyler”, says Pastor Paul Fazio.

Our media partners at Mlive report that the pastor spoke to more than 100 friends, families, classmates and educators on Wednesday.

It would have been Tyler’s 18th birthday.

About the tree, Fazio said, “It’s not a memorial tree that represents an ending. It’s a memorial that represents life.”

We welcome thoughts and comments from our viewers. We ask that everyone keep their remarks civil and respectful. Postings that contain profanity, racist, or potentially libelous remarks will be deleted. We will delete any commercial postings, as well.
