Horton residents excited about new businesses

HORTON, MI (WLNS) – Business is popping in the small community of Horton.

Horton residents Daniel Willman said, “with the gas station we can just walk across the street for lunch. It’s definitely a convenience for us.”

Brenda Kaiser who works in Horton said, “oh, it’s a big plus for the community. A big big plus.”

Today the grand opening event for a gas station and pizza eatery took place with local businesses coming together to celebrate the occasion. It might be just a couple businesses, but for the community of less than 1,000 people it’s a step forward, and it is a time for excitement according to Hanover Township Trustee Phillip Weir.

“We have a nice subway, we have the brown cow, frosty king. We’re just tickled to have a place like this. We haven’t had a gas station in Horton for around six years,” said Weir.

Corrigan Oil President Mike Corrigan was on hand as customers come in and take advantage of the new company, food and refreshments.

“There was a need for it here, and it just felt like the right thing to do. And, obviously it is by today’s turnout with all the local constituents and the local support of the board and John Tallis the supervisor,” said Corrigan.

Corrigan says the new gas station will spur growth for Horton.

“I think we’ve had that early rush here with the Little Caesars here. You know we’ve created a few jobs and again it will be a good convenience for the community as well,” said Corrigan.

Weir says the village depends on as much growth as possible to supply its own money.

“The last 60 years when I can remember Horton there were probably 5 businesses in Horton. You know, we’ve grown . . . we’ve got probably 15 businesses now,” said Weir.
