Bill requires org charts, phone numbers on state website

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan lawmakers want to make it easier for citizens to navigate state government’s bureaucracy.

Legislation up for a vote Tuesday in the state House would require that there be links on the state website to phone numbers and descriptions for executive branch departments and their major divisions or subunits.

There also would have to be an organizational chart with names and numbers for supervisors of each division or subunit.

The deadline to post the information would be Jan. 1, 2018.

The bill sponsor, Republican Rep. Rep. Jim Runestad of White Lake, has said he wants to make it simpler for citizens who have been aggrieved or affected by a state agency to find the correct number to call for an answer and — if needed — go to a supervisor.
