Michigan voters react to John Kasich and Ted Cruz alliance

(WLNS) – Supporters on both sides of the Republican party, the Donald Trump camp, and the Sen. Ted Cruz and Gov. John Kasich camps, are all vocal about why they back their candidate, and what they think of this most recent change in the campaign.

“I like the unpredictability and the honesty of Donald Trump,” Trump Supporter Larry Julian said.

“I think it’s time for the big boys to start playing and I think that’s Ted Cruz,” Capitol Area Chairman for Ted Cruz Sean Bertolino said.

For Trump supporter Julian, he sees this latest alliance as proof of Trump’s strength in the campaign.

“They had to team up because they can’t beat him individually,” Julian said.

On the other side, Bertolino says this alliance is nothing out of the ordinary for the Republican primaries.

“It really is nothing unusual what Cruz and Kasich are doing right now,” Bertolino said.

When it comes to the general elections here in Michigan, Michigan State University Political Science Professor Matt Grossmann says he doesn’t think this latest will change the race, or the outcome in the state.

“I don’t think it is going to affect general election votes in Michigan, unless it affects who the Republican nominee is,” Grossmann said.

Grossmann does say, Trump’s candidacy is a wild card like no other, and in the end, whichever Republican candidate prevails, they will have the party’s support.
