Ionia firefighters had their hands full this afternoon, as they tried to put out a tractor that caught on fire – a tractor with 500 gallons of diesel fuel in the tank.

Spectacular photos provided by the Ionia Department of Public Safety show flames blazing from the tractor, which caught fire around 1 p.m.

It happened in front of Sheri’s Restaurant along the 1000 block of South State St. in Ionia.

Police say the front of the restaurant was damaged.

An environmental company from Grand Rapids is now taking care of the fuel, oil, and burnt rubber at the site.

Officers reduced the number of lanes while the clean up took place.
