House committee approves firefighter cancer funds

LANSING, MI (WLNS) – The house appropriations committee has approved an amendment that will help firefighters in Michigan suffering from cancer.

The amendment sets aside $3 million per year to help firefighters who have been diagnosed with job-related cancer.

Michigan’s Senate previously approved the same amount of money.

The fund was created in January of 2015, but money for the fund was never budgeted.

The plan still needs to be approved by the full house and senate.
