LANSING, Mich (WLNS) – The mother who admitted she killed her newborn daughter will be sentenced today at 8:30 a.m.
26-year-old Melissa Mitin faces a minimum sentence of 27 and a half years, to a maximum of life in prison.
Last month she pleaded guilty to a charge of second-degree murder of her first child.
Mitin gave birth to a second child, a son, but could not tell investigators where that child is. Chief Assistant Prosecutor of Ingham County, Lisa MccCormick, says Mitin gave a separate statement about that case to Meridian Township investigators, as part of the plea agreement.
And she will not be charged in that death.
With Mitin’s guilty plea, three other charges against her will be dropped, including felony murder, first-degree child abuse and concealing the death of an infant.
