Michigan DNR to auction off parcels of surplus public land

LANSING, Mich. (AP) – Surplus public land in about a dozen Michigan counties is up for sale.

The state Department of Natural Resources says a sealed-bid auction will be held between May 10 and June 7.

The 28 parcels are isolated from other DNR-managed land, are difficult to manage and provide limited public recreation benefit. Several that are forested or have riverside or lake frontage are better suited for private ownership.

Counties where the parcels for sale are located include Cheboygan, Clare, Gladwin, Kalkaska, Marquette, Midland, Muskegon, Newaygo, Osceola, Roscommon and Wexford. The parcels range in size from less than an acre to 140 acres.

Sealed auction bids must be postmarked by midnight June 7 and will be opened on June 21.
