LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – It’s the final day of the Michigan Republican State Convention.
“You must mark your ballot completely.”
Yesterday the Republicans voted for congressional delegates.
“It did work out that the math of each congressional district awarded a Trump delegate and Cruz candidate to each, or Trump, Cruz and Kasich candidate to each district,” Chairman of the Michigan Republican Party Ronna Romney McDaniel said.
And today the party elected 10 national convention at-large delegates and ten alternates as well.
Chairman of the Michigan Republican Party Ronna Romney McDaniel says Republicans are excited this election season.
“All the energy’s on our side,” Romney McDaniel said. We’ve had record turnout. Our voters are engaged. The democrats don’t seem as enthusiastic about their candidates as the republicans are about theirs.”
Delegate Janet Recktenwald says the party has to be united.
“we can’t make it unless we’re united. And we have to beat the Democrats this year because our country depends on it,” Recktenwald said.
United with voters, Romney McDaniel pledged her support as an at-large delegate, for Donald Trump.
“I have a responsibility as chair of the Michigan Republican Party to bring our party together, and I am neutral, but I chose to bind myself to the voters of Michigan,” Romney McDaniel said.
Today, Dr. Rob Steele was elected as National Committeeman and Kathy Berden was elected as National Committeewoman.
“I’m accessible for you to call,” Berden said. “Give me your thoughts, any disagreements to take on to the RNC.”
Berden says while there was a lot of enthusiasm this weekend, she believes once there’s a nominee, the party will be more focused.
“We will rally behind and coalesce with our candidate going forth for the election this year,” Berden said.
