State Attorney General Bill Schuette wants to shut down Michigan abortion clinic

DETROIT (WLNS) – State Attorney General Bill Schuette is trying to shut down a Michigan abortion clinic not because of any problems with its performance but because it isn’t run by a doctor.

Schuette has filed a lawsuit against the Summit Women’s Center in Detroit.

He released a statement Thursday acknowledging that there is no problem with the clinic’s patients but the clinic violates Michigan law because of its owner who is not a physician.

The clinic’s website says it offers abortions through the 24th week of pregnancy almost through the second trimester.

The clinic offers other women’s health services as well.
