Women wins legal battle to let autistic son to use changing room with her

DETROIT, Mich. (WLNS) – A woman with an autistic son won a legal battle after her son was barred from the women’s locker room in a Detroit community center.

The woman says her 5-year-old son needs help changing, however he was denied access into the woman’s changing area at Adams Butzel Recreation Center.

The recreation center’s policies state that no one over 18-months old can enter the opposite sex locker room.

She filed a complaint with the U.S. Attorney General’s office.

U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade told the Detroit Free Press that the city of Detroit settled and has agreed to adopt reasonable polices changes regarding children with disabilities.
