Livingston County cracking down on citizens absent from jury duty

LIVINGSTON COUNTY, Mich. (WLNS) – Most people don’t look forward to serving jury duty but it is a vital part of our legal system.

However, Livingston County is experiencing a rash of people skipping their turn serving in court and now officials are cracking down.

About a third of prospective jurors haven’t shown up for duty in the past few months.

Those who skip could now face fees and possibly even jail time.

Our media partners at WHMI report 18 repeat offenders have been called in so far.

Half pleaded guilty, while the other half requested formal hearings although one of those didn’t show up for that either.

Court officials remind people that while jury duty covers a two or three week period most jurors only have to serve a portion of that time if at all.

We welcome thoughts and comments from our viewers. We ask that everyone keep their remarks civil and respectful. Postings that contain profanity, racist, or potentially libelous remarks will be deleted. We will delete any commercial postings, as well.
