Jail inmate captured after short weekend escape in Jackson Co.

JACKSON, Mich (WLNS) – The investigation continues today into how an inmate escaped from the Chanter Road Correctional Facility early Sunday morning.

Jackson County Sheriff Steven Rand tells 6 News that the inmate was discovered missing just after 4:00 a.m. Sunday.

A short time later deputies found the escaped inmate in the city of Jackson.

Before the inmate was returned to the jail he was treated for injuries he sustained during his escape.

Charges are being sought against the suspect for the escape and additional charges will be brought against anybody who may have assisted in the escape.

No names are being released until the investigation is complete.

In addition to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, the Michigan State Police, Jackson City Police and Blackman-Leoni Public Safety assisted in the search and arrest.
