Law enforcement gets ready for DWI crackdowns

LANSING, MI. (WLNS) – St. Patrick’s Day is Thursday and many of us will take the chance to celebrate Irish culture and heritage.

However, some will use the day to overindulge and that’s where the Michigan State Police plan to step in with the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.

Starting Thursday and through April 4th, the MSP and local law enforcement agencies will be stepping up traffic enforcement across the state.

That period of time will cover St. Patrick’s Day, the NCAA men’s and women’s tournaments and many spring breaks for colleges and high schools.

Crackdowns like this are common around holidays when drunk driving is more likely.

Last year at this time, Michigan police arrested more than 2,000 people for driving under the influence.
