FLINT, MI. (WLNS) – Flint Mayor Karen Weaver is working to get the lead out.

Work crews will remove the lead pipes from the first home in the city to benefit from the Fast Start Program.

Fast Start is prioritizing homes that have young children, pregnant women and elderly people.

Weaver says it is the first step to fixing flint’s infrastructure.

She will hold a press conference this Friday afternoon as the work takes place to replace the home’s lead pipes with copper.

She will call on Governor Rick Snyder to pressure state lawmakers to move on a $25 million proposal to begin funding the plan and support massive legislation on the federal level as well.
