Wind turbine partially falls down in Thumb area; no injuries

ELKTON, Mich. (WLNS) – A wind turbine has partially fallen down in Michigan’s agricultural Thumb region.

No injuries were reported. According to the Huron County Sheriff’s Office a portion of the turbine that includes the blades fell Thursday near the Huron County community of Elkton.

There was no immediate word about what caused the turbine to fall.

Witnesses tell investigators that they heard a loud noise just after 5:00 a.m. today and the company operating the wind turbine park was made aware of the situation around 8:00 a.m.

The area saw high winds and heavy snow during a storm that started Wednesday.

Oliver Township Planning Commission Chairman Brion Dickens says the turbine is located among others in a field and no other damage was apparent.

The area is private property and onlookers are advised to not enter the property.
