Crews working to clear rural roads in mid-Michigan

CLINTON, MI (WLNS) – This was the view along northbound 127 this morning, only one lane for much of the drive north.

Joe Pulver with the Clinton County Road Commission says they’re all hands on deck today.

“Everything that we have has got an operator in it and so we’re out trying to remove the snow as quick as we can,” Clinton County Road Commission Director Joe Pulver said.

Crews are working 16 hour days and are responsible for clearing about 1,400 miles of roadway.

While crews here in Clinton County continue to clear the main roads, it’s these back roads that are still covered in snow.

“They kind of neglect the back roads.”

Jim, who owns this property along Old US 27 says the county is doing a good job plowing, but…

“What you gonna do if the dang wind keeps blowing all the time? You know it seems like we’re out west,” Jim said.

In Ingham County, Road Commission Director Bill Conklin agrees.

“We’ve had a lot of blowing, including into this afternoon,” Conklin said. “The sunshine’s been helping us but the blowing’s been hurting us on our open roads out in the country.”

The drifting snow isn’t helping people like Jim, but he realizes the position he’s in.

“if you wanna live out in the country, you gotta make uh things uh, like I have a tractor, snow blower or you gotta deal with it,” Jim said.

While county crews finish their work today and tomorrow, some are looking forward to the weekend.

“Mother nature’s gonna take it away too, so we’re gonna expend a lot of money removing this but the weekend’s going to be really warm,” Pulver said.
