Consumers Energy getting customers out of the dark

JACKSON, MI (WLNS) – The storm didn’t just leave a mess on the roads.  It also left thousands of people in the dark last night.

On a normal day, Consumers Energy’s parking bay will be full of their bucket trucks but because of the storm they are out repairing lines for you to get everything back up and running normally.

Consumers Energy Spokesperson Terry DeDoes said, “We saw heavy snow that was clinging to the trees in Jackson and Ingham Counties, the roads got bad and we did see some electric outages as a result.”

Some Mid-Michigan residents woke up in the dark after howling winds and heavy snow knocked out power lines.

“In Ingham County we had about 630 customers affected.  In Jackson County we had about 1,018 affected,” said DeDoes.

The Winter storm did not take Consumers Energy by surprise.

DeDoes explained, “our crews were anticipating this storm.  We had to plan, we worked a plan and we got out there early and stayed on top of this in this area.”

DeDoes said that storm restoration is complete in Mid-Michigan as of this afternoon but there is still work to be done elsewhere for the hardest hit areas of the storm.

“It could be as late as midnight tomorrow night before the hardest hit areas in Genesee County are restored, but most of the state will be restored by 11:30 tonight,” said DeDoes.

Consumers Energy crews will be out repairing the lines throughout the rest of the day and in the hardest hit areas throughout the night and into tomorrow.
