JACKSON, MI (WLNS) – The Jackson Police Department released 2015’s crime statistics this morning. Some criminal activity is up while other are down.
Jackson City Police note some numbers from the report reveal larceny on the way down from 2014 but criminal sexual conduct and robbery up over the year. Overall, the stats show crime is up slightly from just under 6,000 in 2014 to 6,140 last year.
Jackson City Police Lieutenant Christopher Simpson said, “not a heavy significant difference. No much than a difference where it is more trendy than anything for certain crimes.”
Lt. Simpson is happy from the results he saw last year, though he knows more work needs to be done.
“I look at these every month and in certain areas where crime is significantly higher for instance, robberies are high this year over the previous year. This draws concern.”
Allegiance Health employee Pat Waldie commutes from Lansing to Jackson every day and feels protected. When asked how he felt working here he said, “safe.” He also said he does not feel like he is under any threat when in Jackson.
Lt. Simpson says one of the key ways of keeping people safe in Jackson this year is to keep working with the surrounding townships by help each other out.
