UPDATE: One man dies, second recovering after falling through ice

UPDATE 8:54 a.m. – The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim in a weekend ice accident. 54-year-old Jeffrey Pearson died when he fell through the ice on a private pond. A second man was rescued.

CLINTON CO., Mich (WLNS) – One man is dead but another has survived after the two of them fell through the ice on a Victor Township pond on Saturday.

Deputies with the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office were called out to the 9000 block of South Upton Road at about 4:30 p.m. when they received reports of two people having fallen through the ice on that private pond.

Before they arrived a 56-year-old man was pulled from the water.

He was taken to Sparrow Hospital and was later released after treatment.

However, it took another hour to find a 54-year-old Laingsburg man who had also fallen through the ice.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.
