Body in burned-out house identified as missing girl’s mother

DETROIT (AP) – Officials have identified a woman whose body was found in a burned out vacant house in Detroit as the mother of a 4-year-old girl who is the subject of an Amber Alert.

Detroit police say Monday that Heidi Walker’s body was one of two discovered Saturday in the east side house. The other body is that of a child and hasn’t been positively identified.

The Amber Alert was issued Saturday for Savannah Walker.

A person of interest in the girl’s disappearance turned himself in Sunday to police in Detroit. Police have said the 33-year-old man was the last person seen with Savannah.

The girl’s mother was reported missing Tuesday to police in Livingston County, northwest of Detroit. Police say the girl’s mother had been dating the 33-year-old man.
