RIVES JUNCTION, Mich (WLNS) – The great horned owl is something to see in the wild.
Unless it’s on the bumper of a car.
That was the challenge facing Michigan State Police troopers Thursday when one of the big birds was hit by a car and got tangled up in the bumper.
Troopers carefully removed the bird and placed it in a dog crate while they asked the Department of Natural Resources for a list of rescue shelters for birds of prey.
It took a while but they were able to connect with an exotic animal veterinarian at Country Garden Veterinary who was willing to take in the owl.
Troopers took the owl to the vet clinic and, as of today, the owl is doing well, alert and standing on its own.
The owl will continue to stay in the care of the vet until fully recovered.
