LANSING, Mich (WLNS) – A former Sparrow Hospital nurse who pled guilty to Criminal Sexual Conduct with a patient skipped out on a scheduled hearing for the second time.
On January 4 Sulaiman Awad missed what was to have been the start of his trial.
He had been facing six counts of criminal sexual conduct after police say he victimized a patient while working in mental health in July of 2014. He had pled that down to being guilty of 4th degree Criminal Sexual Conduct, which would have resulted in a maximum of two years in jail.
Awad’s attorney confirmed that his client had missed this most recent hearing and would make no further comment.
Ingham County prosecutor Stuart Dunnings III said the ultimate goal of his office was to have Awad deported. He now believes Awad has fled the country and has basically deported himself.
If Awad attempts to re-enter the United States he could be arrested at the border.
