Lansing Fire Department captain passes away

LANSING, MI (WLNS) – 6 News has learned that Captain Stephen Babcock of the Lansing Fire Department passed away Wednesday.

The Lansing Fire Department said Babcock “passed after a very hard, but short, fight with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.” At the time of his death, he was surrounded by immediate family and many of his friends from the Lansing Fire Department.

Babcock served with the Lansing Fire Department since 1993. He started as a dispatcher and then transitioned to a firefighter in 2003. In March 2015 Babcock was assigned to the Emergency Management Division.

The Lansing Fire Department said, “Steve truly was the ‘Face’ of LFD. He has worked with our friends in the media for 15 years. He was always smiling, always available for a sound bite or a spot on camera.” The Lansing Fire Department Station 1 has lowered their flag to half staff to honor Babcock.
