HASLETT, MI (WLNS) – While basketball may dominate the high school headlines for most of these winter months, we salute the Haslett gymnastics team after the squad pulled off an upset last week that nobody expected.
The Haslett-Williamston-Bath Gymnastics Team may not be the first name you think of in high school gymnastics, but after defeating Grand Ledge last Friday to keep their undefeated dual meet record intact, H-W-B are three letters you should be familiar with.
“Typically we see Grand Ledge later in our season so this was one of the first years we’ve seen them so early so we kinda just went out there to kinda put our best routines out there and it was really exciting for them to be able to say “gosh we really did it!” said Shera Emmons, HWB Assistant Coach.
After notching a signature win over Grand Ledge, these seniors are hoping to end the year as conference champions, setting a new standard for the H-W-B program
“It’s very exciting, like I’ve been on the team all four years and this will be the first year so far that we’ve gone like undefeated so it’s pretty cool,” said Cara Clarizio, senior gymnast.
“That is so exciting I mean we’ve never even been in the realm of even being co-champions, we’ve always known we were probably gonna lose to Grand Ledge so it’s really exciting to be co-champions with them,” said Brooke Allen, senior gymnast.
“To think that maybe we’ll be that team that will be remembered like the one that beat grand ledge who maybe got the ball rolling and um just headed in that direction,” said Megan Ivey, senior gymnast.
Congratulations to Haslett-Williamston-Bath gymnastics, our 6 Sports Team of the Week.
