One dead after Amtrak train crashes into car

GRASS LAKE TWP., MI (WLNS) – One person is dead after their car was hit by an Amtrak train Wednesday afternoon.

It happened around 12:56 p.m. Wednesday at the Willis Road rail crossing, near Michigan Ave. in Grass Lake Twp.

Witnesses called 911 and said an Amtrak train hit a car.

The Jackson County Office of the Sheriff has confirmed there was only one person in the car at the time of the crash. That person did not survive.

No one in the Amtrak train was injured.

Officials say the crossing arms and signal were working at the time of the crash.
