(WLNS) – Winter is always a difficult time for the Red Cross with bad roads and illnesses keeping donors from giving blood.
However, the recent severe snow storm that paralyzed much of the nation has made things much worse and the Red Cross putting out an emergency call for donors.
The blizzard forced the Red Cross to cancel more than 300 blood drives across 20 states depriving them of almost 10,000 donations and depleting the already low winter supply of blood.
The Red Cross has to collect 14,000 blood and platelet donations every day to keep hospitals and transfusion centers stocked.
Adults who are generally healthy and weigh at least 110 pounds are encouraged to consider giving blood or platelets.
