Former IT employee facing up to 5 years behind bars

MASON, MI (WLNS) – After a former Ingham County employee was fired from his job, county officials requested an investigation.

The Mason Police Department then looked into Michael Ashton and possible violations of the county’s ethics policy

That investigation ended up moving onto the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office which filed felony charges against Ashton.

He’s now charged with county purchasing agent violations, a felony punishable by 2-5 years behind bars.

Ashton will be back in court for his preliminary hearing in February.
