Van detours into Mason business

MASON, Mich (WLNS) – Emergency crews in Mason had their hands full this morning pulling a commercial van from the front of a local bar.

The Mason fire chief tells 6 News that just after 8:00 a.m. a man driving a commercial van left the road, drove up onto the sidewalk and eventually came to a stop right outside of Darb’s Bar on South Cedar Street.

The van didn’t cause any major structural damage to the building.

6 News is told the crash may have been caused by a health condition with the driver.

He’s being treated at a local hospital.

The owners say they’re lucky the van stopped where it did. “He did hit some of our electrical power outside that goes to our HVAC system,” said Leanne Hearit. “I heard that the gentleman is okay and we hope the best for him.”

The bar will open as usual this morning and plans to stay open during normal business hours through the weekend.
