COLOMA, Mich. (WOOD) — Michigan State Police have canceled an Amber Alert for two young girls after they were found safe in Colorado.

Officers tell 24 Hour News 8 Nova Perez, 4, and her sister Luna, 3, were taken by their biological father, 24-year-old Alex Perez, after a double homicide at a home near M-63 and Park Street in Berrien County.

According to police, the young girls were found safe and Alez was arrested in Clear Creek, Colorado — more than 1,100 miles from their home in Coloma, about a 16-hour drive.

MSP said they began receiving calls around 11:30 p.m. Thursday for assistance.

A heavy police presence remained on scene of the double homicide early Friday morning. Authorities told 24 Hour News 8 that the two victims died from blunt force trauma, but did not provide further details. Their identity or connection to the girls who were taken is unknown at this time.
