EAST LANSING, MI. (WLNS) – He’s been at the helm for months, but when he’s officially sworn in Thursday, Jeff Murphy will be the permanent chief of the East Lansing Police Department.

Murphy has served the department for almost 30 years and as the interim chief since July.

City Manager George Lahanas will swear him in as chief at a ceremony Thursday at the Hannah Community Center.

Murphy says this is an honor and a tremendous responsibility that he takes very seriously.

The previous Police Chief Juli Liebler retired at the end of June.
