ALERT: Strange scam seen in Jackson County

JACKSON CO., Mich (WLNS) – Every now and then a scam surfaces that has everyone scratching their heads and wondering what’s really going on.

That’s the case in Jackson County where the Sheriff’s Office is warning businesses about a person posing as a Comcast employee.

The person is entering local businesses and asking to use the phone to verify the Comcast account for that address.

Comcast has confirmed that this is not a legitimate thing to do.

But it’s happened at least three times and in some cases the person was given access to non-public areas of the business.

The person has no credentials or even an official looking uniform. It’s not known what the motive might be. Nothing has been reported stolen.

Sheriff Steve Rand is reminding people to verify someone’s identity before letting them into your home or business.

If there is any question or concern call 911.

If you have any information about the fake Comcast person you are asked to contact Sgt. Bryan Huttenlocker at 517-768-7931.

We welcome thoughts and comments from our viewers. We ask that everyone keep their remarks civil and respectful. Postings that contain profanity, racist, or potentially libelous remarks will be deleted. We will delete any commercial postings, as well.
