What are the odds you’ll win the Powerball jackpot?

LANSING, Mich (WLNS) – It’s been “up for grabs” since November but tonight there’s another chance to take home that $1.5 billion Powerball jackpot.

But what are your odds of winning?

Are there any ways for someone to increase their odds of winning?

We’ve been crunching numbers and according to Multi-state Lottery Association any single ticket holder has a 1 in 292 million chance of winning.

If you buy ten tickets you trim the odds to 1 in 29 million.

They say those odds don’t change no matter how big the pot grows or how many people buy tickets.

But remember, as your odds go up, your return on investment goes down.

$2 a ticket can add up pretty fast.

Just to put things into perspective for you: Statisticians say you have a better chance at being elected president, achieving sainthood, being hit by a meteor or being struck by lightning while drowning than winning tonight’s $1.5 billion prize.

Another thing to remember, even if you don’t match all 6 numbers, you could still be a winner, or at least make a quick $4, by just matching the Powerball number.

There are several smaller prizes but you must match the Powerball number to win.
