Community responds to WKAR-TV possibly being taken off air

(WLNS) – 6 News received an email from a group calling itself “Save WKAR” asking for the community to stop donating to Michigan State University, if MSU President Lou Anna K. Simon decides to take WKAR-TV off air.

People from across Mid-Michigan showed up to the public forum last night, giving testimony as to why President Lou Anna K Simon should keep WKAR-TV, rather than auctioning it off for $202 million.

The MSU Alumni Association gave us this statement in response to Save WKAR’s email “If there was ever a time to show financial support for WKAR, it’s now,” Executive Director Scott Westerman wrote.

Although WKAR would still have radio, and be able to keep some content online, people in the community don’t believe that is enough, and want to protect the station they grew up watching.

There will be another public forum held on Monday, January 11, and the final decision will be made by President Simon on Tuesday January 12.

We welcome thoughts and comments from our viewers. We ask that everyone keep their remarks civil and respectful. Postings that contain profanity, racist, or potentially libelous remarks will be deleted. We will delete any commercial postings, as well.
