Nurse accused of sexual assault with patient skips out on trial

LANSING, Mich (WLNS) – The search is on tonight for a former nurse at Sparrow Hospital who prosecutors say had sexual contact with an incapacitated patient.

Sulaiman Awad did not show up for the start of his trial this morning.

Awad faces six counts of criminal sexual conduct after police say he victimized the patient while working in mental health in July of 2014.

Awad was set to start his jury trial this morning but his attorney tells 6 News he did not show up.

An Ingham County Circuit Court judge revoked his bond and issued a bench warrant for his arrest.
