Ingham County leaders to address opioid and heroin addiction

LANSING, Mich. (AP) – Health, law enforcement and other leaders are scheduled to discuss the launch of an opioid awareness campaign to combat drug use in Ingham County and the Lansing area.

Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero, Ingham County Health Officer Linda Vail and others will attend a Jan. 7 news conference at the Human Services Building in Lansing.

Officials formed the Ingham Opioid Work Group in early 2015 to educate the community about heroin and some prescription opioid painkillers like OxyContin and Vicodin.

They say 54 opioid-related deaths were reported in Ingham County from January 2015 through October 2015, and 66 in all of 2014.
