(WLNS) – Two years after Lansing’s Board of Water and Light customers were out of power for over a week, this year the company makes sure all preparations are in place for the city’s first ice storm of the year.
BWL has been holding conferences in preparation for the ice storm coming in, and they say the main improvement the company has made over the past two years is communication.
Customers who experience a power outage can call BWL, text them, check out the BWL mobile app or use the outage center on their website to alert BWL and get a crew out as soon as available.
People at home are also cautioned to be prepared in the case of a power outage, especially in the case of an extended outage.
The American Red Cross of Lansing told 6 News some items to have on hand are a flashlight, batteries, three days of non perishable foods, at least three gallons per person of water, a fully charged phone and a full tank of gas.
