Michigan State Police provide safety tips for driving on slick roads

LANSING, MI. (WLNS) – Law enforcement officials will be on high alert on the roads to help out drivers who have taken a slip in the icy conditions.

Michigan State Police say there are many ways to avoid some of those slips, starting with increasing driving distance.

Officials say it’s important to give some space between your car and the car in front of you.

They add to not be a distracted driver by texting, eating or applying make-up and avoid aggressive lane changes.

State Trooper Tedric Gibbs says he hopes drivers follow these tips to avoid a similar situation that happened earlier this month when winter conditions created chaos near the US-127 and I-496 interchange.

“People, pretty much forgot how to drive for a little bit…they found themselves still traveling too close to one another,” said Trooper Gibbs.

“So it’s just important that people continue to have that extra gap and to leave in plenty of time.”
