LANSING, MI. (WLNS) – It’s a simple concept if you deceive innocent people to steal their money you’re going to pay the price.
One former Lansing woman learned that the hard way.
Amanda Ely, 22, pleaded guilty in federal court for running a tax return scheme that police say allowed her to take $32,000 from the IRS.
Officials from the U.S. Department of Justice say Ely tricked people into providing their personal information then used that information to file false tax returns.
She’s scheduled to be sentenced in May.
