Customers injured when car backs into restaurant

IONIA COUNTY, MI (WLNS) – A restaurant outing went horribly wrong when a driver backed into the building.

It happened around 12:39 p.m. Friday in the 1100 block of S. State Rd at Sheri’s Restaurant.

That’s where the Ionia County Sheriff’s Office says an 86-year-old woman drove her car into the building.

Officials say she was trying to back into a parking spot and instead of pressing the brake pedal, she stepped on the gas.

The car ended up backing into the side of the building and injuring customers inside. Officials say the customers’ injuries are minor.

The Ionia County Sheriff’s Office says another customer was trying to guide the woman into the parking place. Officials believe the woman was distracted at the time of the crash.

An exterior wall of the restaurant was damaged.
