SPARTANS CLINCH DIVISION CROWN, HEAD TO BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIP

The Michigan State Spartans are three wins from becoming the college football national champions.

The Spartans sealed the deal on the Big Ten East division with their win over Penn State. Quarterback Connor Cook returned to action after an injury that kept him from the Ohio State game, and MSU dominated the game on Senior Day to clinch the division title. The final score: MSU 55, Penn State 16.

Next up: the 5th ranked Spartans take on the 4th ranked Iowa Hawkeyes in the Big Ten championship.

But becoming the Big Ten champion is only a side-dish. The winner of the December 5th game in Indianapolis is practically guaranteed a spot on the College Football Playoff.

Only the top four teams in the national get a spot in the three game playoff. The four teams play in the Orange Bowl and Cotton Bowl on New Year’s Eve. The winner of those two games play in the National Championship game on January 11th.
