DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) – AAA Michigan says gas prices statewide have fallen below $2 a gallon for the first time since the start of the year.
The Dearborn-based auto club says Friday the statewide average is about $1.99 per gallon, down 24 cents from last week and about 92 cents less than this time last year. The decline comes as many people prepare to hit the road next week for the Thanksgiving holiday.
AAA attributes the decline to factors including an increase in refinery production, global supply levels and the value of the U.S. dollar.
According to gas price monitoring website gasbuddy.com the average price of a gallon of gas in Lansing is $2.04.
It’s a little lower in Jackson where drivers there will see prices as low as $1.97 per gallon.
