This Morning: Taking Care of Your November Beard

(WLNS) — You may notice things are getting hairier at 6 News for No-Shave November.

The men of 6 News, on and off air, are putting the razors down to raise awareness for men’s healh issues.

The men were treated to one last shave at After Shave Barbershop in Okemos, and our Mariah Harrison went back to the barbershop to get some advice on how the men should be taking care of their new November beards.

President of the Great American Fierce Beard Organization, John Buckler, advises men to wait a full 2 weeks before taking the clippers to your beard (or a full month if you’re participating in No-Shave November). You’ll be able to get a better sense of how the hair is growing in on your face, and you can decide what shape works best for your face.

Don’t give in to the itch! Your hand itches sometimes, and you don’t cut that off. Buckler admits, having hair on your face is a new feeling that takes some getting used to, but if you let it grown it will feel softer and less scratchy is you let it continue to grow.

When trimming, let your beard grow passed your jaw line. Buckler says, it just looks better.

You can also use different oils and balms to keep your hair feeling softer, and as an added bonus the oils will keep the skin under the beard feeling soft too.
