Lions fire top brass after 1-7 start

DETROIT, Mich (WLNS) – 6 Sports Director Fred Heumann has confirmed that the Detroit Lions have fired the team president and general manager.

Team owner Martha Firestone Ford fired general manager Martin Mayhew and president Tom Lewand this morning.

Lewand was in his 20th season with the Lions, and his sixth as president. Mayhew became the team’s general manager early in the 2008 season when the team fired Matt Millen.

The Lions have the worst record in the NFL and come off an embarrassing loss in London to the Kansas City Chiefs.
