MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (AP) – Police are seeking help from the public in identifying a hit-and-run driver who struck and killed a Central Michigan University freshman near the school’s Mount Pleasant campus.
The school says in a statement on its website that the student hit early Sunday was a resident of Merrill Hall.
The Morning Sun of Mount Pleasant and our sister station WOOD-TV report that he was walking to his residence hall with friends when he was hit. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The student’s name was not immediately released. He was from the Detroit-area community of Macomb.
Police say witnesses describe the vehicle as older and dark in color with four doors. It likely has front passenger-side damage.
No other injuries were reported. Counseling was made available at Merrill Hall and adjacent residence halls.
