UPDATE: Hector Arroyo will spend 1 year in Eaton Country Jail beginning today. He has credit for 3 days and will be on probation for 5 years following.
Hector Arroyo pled guilty to driving on a suspended license which caused a death and a failure to stop at a fatal accident. The homicide charge was dismissed in plea agreement.
UPDATE: The driver accused in the hit and run accident that took the life of a Waverly High School student has been arraigned in court. Hector Arroyo, 68 of Lansing is charged with homicide, operating with a suspended license and failure to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in death.

6 News has learned Arroyo was driving on a suspended license at the time of the hit and run accident. Arroyo’s license was suspended in 2012.
EATON CO., Mich (WLNS) – 6 News has learned that the 14-year-old Waverly High School student who was seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident Wednesday morning has died.
The Eaton County County Sheriff’s Department tells 6 News that 14-year-old Helina Dirba died this morning. The girl was struck near Waverly High School on West Michigan Avenue.
A suspect was arrested late Wednesday and was scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon.
According to a news release from Waverly High School grief counselors are in the school today.
