Fire kills several pets

LANSING, MI (WLNS) – A fire in the basement of a Lansing house leads to the tragic loss of several family pets.

It started just before noon in a home on the city’s northwest side on Randolph.

Two people were taken to the hospital with smoke inhalation and are expected to be okay.

There were lots of pets in the home and family members say that several birds, a lizard and possibly a dog and cat died in the fire.

Officials say the home had smoke detectors, but they were not working.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
